A Lifetime Ahead

Five years into our marriage, William Max brought his pregnant secretary home.

“You’re not well, so let her carry the baby.”

I looked at him, no tears, no drama, just a nod.

As I left, his friends in the living room guffawed:

“William’s still got it! Sophia Miller used to be so arrogant, but now she’s completely docile.”

“Sophia traded her paintbrush for a spatula, I guess she’s finally returned to her proper place.”

William leisurely blew smoke rings.

“Can painting put food on the table? She wouldn’t survive without me.”

I didn’t say a word, just walked upstairs.
