I was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta—brittle bone disease. My mother, however, was convinced I was simply lazy, a girl who lacked the "grit" to move.
Her logic was as stubborn as it was flawed: because my twin brother, Cooper, and I shared the same womb, we had to share the same constitution. Cooper was built like a linebacker, strong and resilient. I was made of glass.
"I’ve read the studies," she would say, her voice tight with a terrifying kind of maternal "tough love." "Twins have the same genetic blueprint. You’re just wallowing in your own lethargy.
