Julian gave me a secondary credit card with a strict limit.
A daily cap of fifty dollars. Anything over that, I had to snap a picture of the receipt and text it to him for approval.
He called it "financial transparency in marriage."
I obeyed for three years.
Last month, my annual physical revealed a thyroid nodule. The doctor recommended a needle biopsy.
I took a picture of the estimated bill and sent it to him.
"$1,200 out of pocket?" he replied immediately. "For a nodule? Can't you just monitor it for now?"
I didn't reply. I canceled the appointment.
