When the traitor pulled the trigger five years ago, Damon threw his body in front of mine to take the bullet. He didn't stop there—he locked his arms around the shooter and dragged them both off the edge of the pier, vanishing into the churning, pitch-black water.
The day they dragged his bloated body out of the harbor, I knelt on the jagged gravel until the sharp stones tore through my jeans and embedded deep into my flesh.
I swore on his grave that the people behind the ambush would pay in blood.
