The fall semester of our junior year kicked off with the Student Government Association elections. My best friend, Betty, and I both made it to the final ballot for Vice President.
Right before the votes were tallied, Betty proposed a playful bet: whoever lost had to dress up in a clown costume and run eight laps around the track field in front of the entire campus.
I won by a narrow margin of ten votes.
The applause hadn't even died down when the screen behind the podium flickered.
