He Proposed To Spite Her

The night he proposed, Bruno rented out the entire bistro where we had our very first date.

He’d arranged everything: armfuls of fresh white roses, a platinum ring, and a feature wall covered in photographs capturing four years of our memories. Everyone in the room cheered, whispering that the stoic Bruno had finally learned how to be a romantic.

For a second, I almost believed it too.

Until he dropped to one knee, and his phone screen flashed on the table beside us. A notification popped up—his ex-girlfriend, Kendra, had just announced her engagement.
