At three in the morning, my phone rang.
It was my mother.
The problem was, Mom had been dead for three years.
“Honey, listen to me.”
Her voice came through the phone so clearly that for one terrifying second, it felt like she was standing right beside my bed.
“Don’t go to work next Wednesday. There’s going to be a fire at your office.
“Take a day off. Tell your supervisor you have a family emergency out of town. Whatever you do, make sure you’re not in that building on Wednesday.”
I shot upright in bed, my heart hammering against my ribs.
“Mom?”
My voice trembled.
