At our wedding rehearsal, my fiancé’s first love walked up to my deaf brother holding a black permanent marker.
With deliberate, cruel strokes, she drew a grotesque clown smile across his face. Then, right across his forehead, she scribbled the word "DEFECTIVE" in giant block letters.
"The little deaf guy can't hear all the happy music anyway," she giggled, holding up the Sharpie like a prize. "I’m just giving him a smile so he can join in on the fun!"
Around her, the groomsmen erupted into sharp, mocking laughter, their eyes gleam with the thrill of a side-show entertainment.
