The day I officially quit the hockey team was the day I ran into my biological mother.
She was standing right next to her stepson, smiling proudly as he held up the championship trophy.
When she spotted me, she frowned in disgust. "Is this how your father takes care of you? You look like a homeless kid. It’s embarrassing."
"Didn't I give you a debit card? Did you blow through all the money already?"
I just smiled, walking right past her as if she were a total stranger.
She had no idea that the card she gave me was completely deactivated.
