This was my third time standing at the altar with Brandon.

The chapel doors swung open, and his childhood sweetheart, Cathy, stepped into the aisle holding a creased, yellowed slip of paper.

"You promised me once," her voice drifted down the center aisle, soft yet piercing. "Anytime, anywhere, if I ever pulled this out, you’d walk away with me. Does that promise still count?"

Brandon’s eyes rimmed with sudden red. A helpless, tender smile tugged at the corners of his mouth.

"Always," he whispered.
