Giselle and I shared the exact same birthday.
Our parents had been close friends since college, which meant our lives were tangled together long before either of us had a say in the matter. Giselle was radiant, quick-witted, and effortlessly charming. Every year, when our joint celebration rolled around, the entire room naturally gravitated toward her, leaving me hovering in the shadowy periphery like an uninvited guest.
