My Surgery on His Wedding Day

The day before the final deadline for my surgery deposit, my brother lent the money our parents left me to his fiancée.

I found out at the hospital billing window.

When the receptionist swiped the card, the terminal beeped twice, flashing an error: "Insufficient Funds."

The nurse glanced up through the glass, her gaze drifting past my shoulder. "Did your family transfer the funds to the wrong account?"

I pulled out my phone and dialed Caleb. It rang for what felt like minutes before he finally picked up.
