It was past midnight when I missed the last train home. Shivering on the empty platform, I called my husband, asking him to come pick me up.
He answered, his voice airy and completely unbothered. "Give me an hour."
In that single second, the illusion shattered. I knew exactly what that "hour" meant.
Tonight, like so many nights before, would be a test of endurance. A waiting game with no end.
For the years we’d been married, Wayne had used this petty, calculated tactic to punish me. A lingering retaliation for the times I’d run late putting on my makeup when we first started dating.
