When I went back to my parents' house for Sunday dinner, my mom was bustling around in the kitchen. "Chloe, the iPad is acting up again. Can you take a look?"
While I was fixing it, a group chat notification popped up on the screen. The group name was [Happy Family].
There were six people in the chat: my dad, my mom, my older brother Ethan, my husband Liam, and my son Noah.
And Mia, the adoptive sister who found her biological parents and moved out five years ago.
I was the only one not in the group.
The notification was a photo my mom had just sent—a plate of Spicy Szechuan Chicken.
