The Christmas I Left

Three years. Three Christmases I watched my husband pack up and cart his whole family off to Aspen for the holidays.

I got left behind. Alone.

"Flights are crazy expensive, Evelyn. Someone's gotta stay and watch the house."

Same excuse. Every single time.

The first two years, I played the good wife.

But this year? No arguments. No tears. Not even a blink.

I just smiled, waved them off at the door, and waited.

The second their SUV disappeared around the corner, I had my realtor on the phone.

"List the house. Today."
