The Five-Day Absence

I spent five days in the hospital with severe gastroenteritis, and Chloe never visited me once.

That was when I knew we had to get a divorce.

That night, I slid the finalized divorce papers across the desk to her.

She looked up from her laptop, her gaze trying to pierce right through me.

"The day before yesterday, I missed our dinner because I was helping Ethan format his data. You know he’s a new hire, his foundation is weak, and since we went to the same college, I’m the only one he can turn to."
