My mother owned a camera that could take pictures of the future.
When I was born, she snapped a photograph of me and my older sister, Megan. In the picture, I was supposed to encounter a kidnapper years later. I escaped safely, but Megan died saving my life.
From that day on, I became the family's sinner.
At mealtimes, I squatted in the corner of the kitchen, picking through Megan’s lukewarm leftovers. At night, I slept in the cramped utility closet right next to Megan’s princess-themed bedroom, so I’d be close enough to turn off her light, fold her clothes, and fetch her water whenever…
