Serena always said we were "Essentialist" partners.
No extravagant gifts, no holiday fanfare, no empty rituals. "True love doesn’t need a paper trail of receipts to prove its existence," she’d say, her voice calm and convinced.
Even her best friend, Sebastian, backed her up. "She’s so evolved, man. You’re lucky. My ex used to track my value in Rolexes. It was exhausting."
I nodded along, believing them.
We lived "intentionally" for four years. In those four years, I never received a single birthday surprise or a spontaneous token of affection.
