After retiring from teaching high school, I took on a private tutoring gig for a senior in a neighboring suburb.
When I arrived at the client’s house, the first thing I saw was a massive family portrait hanging on the living room wall.
In the photo, a family of three smiled radiantly.
And the woman in the picture... was my wife. The woman I had been married to for thirty years.
I stood there, completely paralyzed, when the teenage boy walked out of the kitchen carrying a plate of fruit.
"Mr. Davis, have some fruit first. I’ll go grab my practice exams."
