After my wife was promoted to chief conductor, her work kept her so busy that I saw her only twice in three years.
Each time, she came home in the middle of the night and left before dawn with her bag in hand.
When my father‑in‑law fell seriously ill and urgently needed money, I wrote to her several times but never received a reply. I had no other choice, so I went to the train station to find her.
I handed over our marriage certificate.
The ticket clerk frowned and read the document three times before handing it back.
