I told my husband to take the trash out on his way, but our bag was still sitting right by our front door.
Instead, I watched him effortlessly pick up the leaking bag in front of our neighbor's apartment.
He offered his usual smooth explanation. "It was on the way. Besides, she's your best friend's sister."
My neighbor was Stella, my best friend's older sister.
She was also a single mother.
Every single time my husband stepped in to help her, he pulled out the exact same line: "She's your best friend's sister."
