Two Brides For One Groom

Everyone on the internet envied our friendship.

When my mother cut me off, Lila was the one who supposedly emptied her checking account to help me make rent.

When an anonymous smear campaign nearly ruined my design career, Lila was the one who stayed up with me through the night, cross-referencing timestamps to clear my name.

Even Oliver, my partner of ten years, used to complain about her with a half-amused scowl: "Every single time I try to do something nice for you, Lila beats me to the punch."

And Lila would roll her eyes and shoot back, "That’s because men are useless."
