The night I discovered Sienna’s affair, I turned the gas on the kitchen stove to its maximum setting.
I sat on the floor, my thumb trembling against the striker of a silver lighter, and looked up at her with a smile that felt like a jagged blade.
"How about we just stop? Both of us. Right now."
For the first time in our five-year marriage, I saw genuine terror in her eyes.
Then the front door burst open. My mother rushed in, the cold winter air trailing behind her like a shroud, and she slapped me across the face so hard my vision blurred.
