In the quiet dark of our bedroom, right in the middle of a whispered promise from my husband, the door was slammed open.
His non-biological sister stood in the doorway, tears spilling down her cheeks like shattered beads.
"Trevor... my skin is on fire again. You’re the only one who can make it stop..."
The hand Trevor had resting against my waist went rigid.
A second later, he threw back the duvet, shifted away from me, and wrapped Jill in his arms.
"It’s her touch starvation," he said softly, keeping his eyes on her as he smoothed her hair. "When it flares up, her whole body aches.
