Chapter 3

3,370 words

"Sis, don't go! You haven't sold yourself yet. Let me give you a hand!"

With a sharp "ripping" sound, Mary slashed my skirt with a sharp object.

I hurriedly reached out to cover myself, but Lucas grabbed my hands tightly.

The sound of tearing fabric exploded in my ears. Before I could even react, I was already standing under the spotlight.

The stares around me pierced my skin like needles.

All my dignity and composure shattered completely in that moment.

Lucas dragged me toward the stands.

"What the eye sees is limited. I propose that anyone who wants to marry her come up here and measure her measurements themselves."

He held up the tape measure in his hand.

"No, let me go!" I struggled to resist, but he held my hands tightly in a vice-like grip.

Humiliation surged through every fiber of my being, and tears streamed down my face.

"Lucas, why are you doing this to me!"

"Why?" He clamped his hand over my chin and whispered, "Everyone knows you're my woman. How dare you publicly auction off your marriage? You're the one who slapped me in the face first."

My throat went dry. But clearly, he was the one who betrayed me first.

Lucas saw the hurt in my eyes, yet chose to ignore it.

"Who's first?"

The crowd erupted once more.

"Damn, Young Master Lucas, you're serious. You're just like my own brother! I'll go! I'll go!"

A potbellied fat man from the crowd rushed forward and groped me from head to toe.

"Get lost!"

I tried to crouch down to hide myself, but Lucas yanked me back up.

"Holy shit! Such a tender, supple figure!you're a real stunner! Young Master Lucas, you've really been living the high life."

"I'll bid 3 million. Don't anyone try to outbid me!"

"5 million!"

The bidding drew even more people.

Men surged forward, countless lecherous hands roaming over my body.

"That body's worth 10 million!"

"She's got a great body, but I'm worried about down there´" Someone muttered, immediately sparking even more mockery.

"That's only because she's been played with so much by Mr. Lucas!"

"It's not just that. She once bore a child for Young Master Lucas, but the child didn't live long!it died before it was even a month old!" Mary shrieked, deliberately speaking loudly for everyone to hear, then immediately covered her mouth:

"Brother Lucas, I'm sorry! You told me not to say that, and I forgot!"

The blood in my veins froze instantly.

That child was a hurdle I'd never been able to get past. I'd even suffered from severe depression because of it.

It was Lucas who stayed by my side every step of the way, guiding me and pulling me out of that quagmire bit by bit, promising that neither of us would ever mention it again.

Yet he went and told Mary about it.

Rage surged through me, and with all my strength, I kicked Mary to the ground.

But I was met with a resounding slap from Lucas.

I clutched my cheek and wept uncontrollably: "You said that dead child was our shared secret!why? Why did you tell someone else?!!"

He snorted, yanked Mary into his arms, and said, "Mary isn't just anyone!she's my fianc└e. Naturally, she should know about my past!"

Mary raised an eyebrow at me triumphantly.

Then she pressed herself against Lucas, her voice syrupy: "Brother Lucas, this is such a spectacular show. I want more people to see it."

"Tell me, what do you want to do?" Lucas looked utterly doting. "I'll do whatever you say."

"I want to go live!"
