After My Third Divorce From Godfather, I Will Never Come Back
CH. 01
Chapter 1
I am the only godmother in the underworld who has been divorced three times.
The first divorce happened because Andre's childhood sweetheart, Alice, returned. He told me:
"Rachel, she and I once swore before God that neither of us would marry anyone else while the other was still single."
The second time was because Alice fell into depression. He stroked my hair and said:
"Alice is the daughter of a man who made great contributions to the family. She needs me more right now. Don't make this difficult for me."
Again and again, I was forced to leave the home Andre and I shared.
Until the third time, Alice deliberately damaged my car's brakes to threaten me with divorce.
I personally handed him the divorce papers with my signature already on them.
Andre praised me for being understanding and began planning an even grander wedding ceremony to remarry me. What he didn't know was,
this time, I would never come back.
Chapter 1
"Let's get divorced."
I calmly placed the signed divorce agreement on his desk.
Andre froze for a moment. It was the first time I had ever handed him divorce papers myself.
But he quickly regained his composure and signed his name with practiced ease.
"Rachel... I know you've suffered."
He took my hand and looked at me with those affectionate eyes.
"I promise, once Alice leaves, I'll give you the most magnificent remarriage ceremony."
In the past, I would have made him write a promise and swear it before God.
But this time, my heart was completely still. I simply packed my belongings in silence.
Andre watched as I folded my clothes and placed them into my suitcase with efficiency and speed. For once, a trace of panic appeared in his eyes.
He suddenly grabbed my hand again, his voice serious and sincere.
"Rachel, you will always be the only godmother of the Loreto Family."
Looking into his deep blue eyes, I suddenly remembered the day we got married.
Andre slipped a ruby ring onto my finger and kissed my fingertips. He said:
"Rachel, I will never betray our marriage."
He truly never betrayed our marriage.
After all, once we were divorced, he was free to be with whoever he wanted.
The price was that I became the biggest joke in the entire underworld—the only godmother who could be summoned whenever needed and discarded whenever convenient.
Andre hesitated, as if making a very difficult decision.
"Rachel, if you really don't want to move out, I can find a place for you to stay in the estate..."
I pulled my hand away and zipped up my suitcase.
"No need. I have somewhere to go."
Andre seemed to remember something. He frowned, and impatience finally appeared in his voice.
"Don't tell me you are going to drink yourself into a stupor again and let the whole family know you can't live without me?"
"Don't make me clean up your mess again."
The first time we divorced, I really did get drunk at a winery and was brought back to the family estate by members who didn't know the truth.
But when Alice saw me, she immediately cried and threatened to shoot herself.
The argument drew the attention of the family members. Their eyes turned toward Alice with undisguised contempt.
To comfort Alice, Andre completely ignored my dignity and threw the divorce agreement at me in front of everyone.
From then on, every divorce between Andre and me was announced to the entire family by him.
Everyone in the underworld said that Andre loved Alice.
I was nothing more than a shameless ex-godmother who refused to leave.
This time, Andre finally had nothing left to worry about.
I picked up my suitcase and walked toward the door without hesitation.
"Don't worry. I won't appear in front of you again."
Andre stared at me blankly. Only after I opened the door and stepped outside did he panic slightly and add:
"We'll remarry on the ninth of next month. I'll wait for you."
I paused.
What a coincidence.
My flight was booked for the ninth as well.
Chapter 2
From the second day Alice landed in Sicily, Andre never called me again.
During the first two divorces, I planted at least six informants around the estate.
I was almost obsessed. I bribed his driver and slipped money to his personal bodyguards.
All just to know when he left, when he returned, who he met, and what he ate.
Those days felt like a string stretched to its limit. One more pull and it would snap.
This time, I stopped doing those foolish things.
I turned off my phone and went to my friend Sophia's house, spending more than ten days drowning in wine and pleasure.
Sophia wrapped her arms around my neck and shouted:
"Rachel, you are finally acting like a real person!"
Yes. Finally.
With only half a month left before I left Sicily, I wore a striking red backless dress and followed Sophia to the best restaurant in Sicily.
We waited for a table on the terrace, while the sea breeze turned her curls into a complete mess.
She was telling me about her new lover's skills in bed. I laughed so hard that the white wine in my glass spilled onto my dress.
I wiped the stain and looked up.
That was when I saw Andre walk through the revolving doors with his arm around Alice's waist.
Andre's eyes found me immediately, and a flash of surprise crossed his face.
"Oh? Isn't that Rachel? How did you know Andre and I were coming here for dinner tonight?"
Alice leaned against Andre's shoulder, her ivory gown trailing across the floor, dimples showing as she smiled.
Her words were deliberately suggestive, making it sound as if I had investigated their plans and waited here on purpose.
As expected, Andre frowned. He instinctively stepped in front of Alice, afraid I would attack her like I had before.
I saw it all, but my heart remained completely calm. I simply continued eating the sardine rolls in front of me.
Sophia had a fiery temper. She cursed under her breath, and her fingers had already reached for the table knife.
I grabbed her wrist and shook my head.
Alice's smile froze for a moment. She probably never expected that I wouldn't flip the table.
Her eyes shifted before she leaned weakly back into Andre's arms.
"I'm sorry, Rachel. Andre reserved the entire restaurant tonight. He said he wanted to have dinner with only me. You may have to find another place."
She tugged on Andre's arm, asking him to take her side.
Andre met my eyes.
His throat moved, and hesitation flashed in his gaze.
But in the end, he only nodded at me.
"Rachel, go somewhere else. Put the bill on my account."
Sophia's face darkened, but I held her wrist firmly to stop her from rushing forward.
"Okay."
I stood up and placed my wine glass on the table, the soft clink echoing.
"We'll go somewhere else."
Somewhere else.
Somewhere without Andre.
Before leaving Sicily, I didn't want any unnecessary trouble.
The restaurant manager was quick to read the situation. He immediately approached Andre and Alice with a flattering smile.
"The two of you are truly a loving couple. It's admirable."
But Andre's eyes never fell on the manager.
He was watching me. I could feel his burning gaze following my back.
But I never looked back. I walked away with determination and without hesitation.
Behind me, I heard Alice calling his name, but Andre never answered.
As the revolving door closed behind me, I caught a glimpse of him still standing there.
And watching me.
Chapter 3
I thought Andre and I would never see each other again before I left the country.
But on the very night I officially submitted my application to leave the Family, he actually called me and invited me to dinner.
When I refused, the man's voice immediately revealed his dissatisfaction.
"Why won't you come?"
I casually brushed him off.
"I've gained some weight recently. I don't want to go."
The moment the words left my mouth, I regretted them slightly.
It sounded as if I still cared about what he thought of me.
Sure enough, Andre let out a low chuckle, teasing me.
"Do you really think there's anything about you I haven't seen? You should know that I've always loved you, your appearance would never change that."
His overly intimate tone made me extremely uncomfortable, so I spoke coldly.
"Is there something else?"
The man immediately noticed the distance in my voice. For once, there was a hint of panic in his tone.
"I heard from them that you submitted an application to leave the Family?"
I hummed in response, not intending to explain.
Andre fell silent for a moment. When he spoke again, his voice surprisingly carried a hint of pleading.
"Why do you want to leave?"
"You are, after all, the only godmother of the Family."
I impatiently interrupted him.
"Shouldn't you be staying with Alice?"
Andre couldn't help but lower his voice.
"My relationship with her is already in the past. What's there to accompany her for?"
But after saying that, he fell silent.
Because he suddenly remembered that I was nothing more than his ex-wife now.
A trace of guilt flashed across Andre's face.
"The divorce... I was the one who wronged you."
"I was just afraid that if we didn't divorce, people would secretly gossip about Alice..."
I nodded.
Alice shouldn't have been the subject of gossip.
So I deserved to become the joke , the topic everyone in the Family discussed during their free time.
My voice grew colder.
"If there's nothing else, I'll hang up."
"Wait!"
Andre's voice suddenly became urgent.
"The eighth is our wedding anniversary. There's an auction of famous paintings that day. I know you love painting, and I know I've neglected you these past few days. Let's go to the exhibition together that day. I'll buy you an original Picasso as an apology. How about that?"
For a brief moment, I hesitated.
I wanted to tell him the truth.
But before I could say anything, Alice's voice came through the phone first.
"Andre, my chest hurts so much."
Andre didn't respond immediately.
All I could hear was his breathing suddenly becoming heavier.
Silence was the clearest answer.
"Go ahead."
I gave a self-mocking laugh.
He cleared his throat, as if trying to explain.
"Rachel, Alice's situation is complicated. I'll be back soon."
Just as I expected, I heard Alice's soft moan.
Then came the sound of Andre and Alice kissing.
Coincidentally, Sophia called out to me, asking me to go to the bar and relax.
I hung up the phone without hesitation.
There were so many things in this world that could make me happy.
I would never let you hurt me again, Andre.
Chapter 4
Days passed quickly. By the time I realized it, there were only a few days left before I left the country.
Although I no longer had anything to do with him, I still heard a little about his and Alice's recent situation from Sophia.
Apparently, he and Alice had a huge fight, and he even stormed out of the banquet Alice hosted.
There were also rumors that their argument was because of me.
After hearing that, I only smiled indifferently.
I was no longer the Rachel who once had no room in her heart for anyone but Andre.
I was no longer the Rachel who would rush to his side the moment there was even the slightest crack in their relationship, .
I was no longer the Rachel who would desperate to tell him that she was the one who loved him the most.
Whether it was because of me or not, I no longer cared.
However, after that, the number of times Andre called me started increasing day by day.
Unfortunately for him, I either hung up immediately or refused to meet him with one excuse after another.
Until the day before I was leaving the country, when Andre asked me to go to an art exhibition with him.
"Today is the anniversary of the first time we got married. You won't refuse me again, will you?"
"Just consider it giving me a chance to make things up to you, okay?"
He had never lowered himself like this to ask me for anything.
In the past, he was always the one who casually started a conversation, and I would rush toward him like a moth flying into a flame.
But this time, I genuinely didn't know what to say.
Because today was not our wedding anniversary.
It was the day he remarried me after divorcing me for the first time because of Alice.
He had always been like this.
He remembered everything about me vaguely, as if nothing was ever important enough to truly stay in his mind.
But in the end, I still agreed.
After all, an original Picasso was truly a rare treasure.
Yet on that day, I waited outside the exhibition hall for a full three hours.
And Andre never appeared.
Heavy rain poured down from the sky.
I called him again and again, but he never answered.
Finally, he sent me a voice message.
His apologetic voice came through the phone together with the sound of an auction hammer falling, mixed with Alice's soft laughter in the background.
"I'm sorry, Rachel. Alice suddenly felt pain in her chest again, so I took her to the hospital."
"When Alice leaves tomorrow, I'll accompany you no matter what you want to do, okay?"
At that moment, Instagram notified me of Alice's latest post.
The photo of her and Andre at the art exhibition appeared before my eyes.
Along with it was the painting Andre had bought for her, an original Picasso.
The woman in the painting covered her face as tears streamed down.
She looked just like me at that moment, standing outside the exhibition hall, soaked through by the rain like a stray dog.
I couldn't help but laugh.
I laughed at myself for still holding on to the last trace of hope I had for Andre.
And now, that final bit of hope was completely shattered.
Without a single trace of attachment left, I turned around and went to the airport.
I sat there through the entire night and became the first person to board the plane.
I ignored Andre's messages and calls about remarriage, blocking all of his contact information.
Until right before takeoff, I received a call from Sophia.
Andre's anxious voice came from the other end of the phone.
"Rachel, where are you?"
