After My Wife Gave Our School District Spot to Her Male Coworker, I Took Our Child and Divorced Her
CH. 02
Chapter 2
When I mentioned divorce,
Megan finally realized how serious this was and answered half-heartedly,
“Fine, fine! I’ll go find Derek right now. Happy now?”
“It’s just one elementary school spot. Do you really have to make such a big deal out of it...”
After saying that, Megan still left in a huff, clearly unwilling to back down.
Her impatient attitude made me want to grab her and keep arguing.
But I forced myself to swallow it.
Forget it. Right now, the most urgent thing wasn’t to get angry. My son Noah still didn’t have a school.
I couldn’t count on Megan completely with the way she was acting. If the spot really couldn’t be taken back, I needed a backup plan. But after thinking it over, I realized this wasn’t something I could solve alone.
I could only sigh helplessly and call my parents.
“Hello, Dad, Mom. I need to tell you something...”
For three straight days, there was no movement at all on the school spot.
Every time I asked, Megan just brushed me off over the phone.
“I’m working on it, I’m working on it.”
“How easy do you think this is? You think you can just move someone out and cancel it? Their child’s schooling is a big deal too. They need time to arrange a transfer, don’t they? Why are you rushing?”
Then, after only a couple more sentences, she was eager to hang up.
“Forget it, I’m busy right now. I’m working overtime tonight, so don’t wait for me for dinner.”
She said she was working overtime, and she came home later and later each day.
The first night it was eleven.
The second night it was close to midnight.
By the third day, I was leaning on the sofa waiting until midnight, and all I got was a text:
【Project is behind schedule. Sleeping at the office.】
I wasn’t stupid. I could tell Megan was just avoiding this.
Finally, on Friday night, I waited in the living room for Megan to come home late.
“You’re back?”
As she changed her shoes, Megan glanced at me and answered,
“Yeah, I’m back.”
“If there’s nothing else, I’m going to shower and sleep. Overtime is killing me.”
I stood up and blocked her path.
“What about the school-district spot?”
“It’s been a week. Why is there still no progress? A lot of public elementary schools stop accepting students next month.”
Megan helplessly curled her lips and walked around me, continuing inside.
“You’re bringing this up again. Can you let me breathe for a second? I’m working overtime every day for this family, aren’t I?”
“You ask me two or three times a day. Aren’t you tired?”
“Derek also needs to find a school for his daughter. That takes time to contact people, pull strings, and handle the paperwork. Can’t you wait a little longer? Can’t you show some understanding for other people’s difficulties?”
I let out a cold laugh.
I had already expected Megan to react like this.
Crossing my arms, I said slowly, “Of course I understand.”
“I also know you’re coworkers, so it would be hard for you to bring it up.”
When Megan heard that, she stopped walking.
She turned around in surprise and looked at me.
“Honey, I knew you weren’t unreasonable!”
“Ah, honestly, Noah going to private school is just as good...”
But before Megan could finish, I cut her off.
I kept going, “So I found a school for his daughter.”
“You can’t bring yourself to ask, so I’ll go to your company on Monday and tell him myself. If he doesn’t agree, I’ll also mention it to your group’s leadership. I’ll ask whether ruining someone else’s family counts as moral corruption.”
“Didn’t you say your company is laying people off right now?”
The smile on Megan’s face vanished instantly.
She glared at me viciously and shouted, “Evan Carter, what do you mean by that?”
“You’re threatening me!”
Then, as if remembering something, she lowered her voice and warned me,
“Noah is home right now. I don’t want to fight with you.”
“I said I’d handle this, and I will handle it. Don’t go to my company on Monday, do you hear me? Don’t push this into a point where it can’t be fixed!”
I shook my head in amusement.
I knew exactly what Megan was thinking.
She just wanted to drag this out until public elementary schools stopped accepting students, so the spot couldn’t be taken back anymore. Then I’d have no choice but to drop the issue and let Noah go to private school.
I lifted my hand and pointed toward Noah’s room, signaling to her.
“Don’t worry. I sent Noah to my mom’s place.”
“He won’t be coming back to stay here for now.”
“My son matters more to me than he does to you.”
As I spoke, I handed her the documents on the coffee table.
“Also, I’m moving back in here for the time being. This is the divorce agreement. I’ve already signed it.”
“I already gave you a week. Since you can’t get the spot back, forget it. I don’t feel like arguing with you anymore. We’ll just see each other in court.”
“I’ve formally sued you and Derek.”
