After Reborn, I Watched My Toxic Roommate Fall into the Abyss
CH. 01
Chapter 1
My roommate, Serena Vance, suddenly received a massive wire transfer.
She was the type of person who loved to mooch off everyone in our dorm. So, when an unexpected one million dollars landed in her account, she practically grinned from ear to ear.
Out of sheer goodwill, I warned her that it might be a new type of phishing scam.
She completely brushed me off, even accusing me of being jealous of her good fortune.
Later, our Advisor found out and forced her to return the money.
Serena convinced herself that I was the whistleblower. In a fit of rage, she pushed me off the sixth-floor balcony of our dorm.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the exact day she received that wire transfer.
This time, I looked at her with pure envy. "Oh my gosh, Serena! You are so incredibly lucky!"
"Notification: One million dollars has been deposited into your account."
In our quiet dorm room, the loud computerized voice from her phone was impossible to ignore.
All of us stopped what we were doing and stared at Serena.
She was clearly stunned too. She frantically unlocked her phone, and a second later, she gasped, covering her mouth as a massive, uncontrollable grin spread across her face.
"Whoa, Serena, did you just hit the lottery? You definitely owe us dinner!"
Our suite captain, Lily Roberts, joked, assuming Serena was just playing a prank on us with a funny ringtone.
Serena’s eyes darted around suspiciously before she quickly went along with it. "You guys actually believed that? It’s just a custom ringtone."
But Mia Evans, who was sitting next to her, leaned over to glance at her screen. Her jaw dropped. "Holy shit, Serena. You actually have a million dollars in your account?! Did someone wire that to you by mistake?"
Serena’s face instantly darkened. She locked her phone and shoved it into her pocket, stammering, "No way. It’s probably... some inheritance from a rich relative of mine."
The three of us exchanged looks. We all knew she was lying.
It wasn't that we were jealous. It was just that Serena was notorious for her awful habits.
She was a chronic moocher.
She regularly stole Lily’s body wash, Mia’s laundry detergent, and my high-end skincare products and tissues.
She would take whatever she wanted without asking.
And when we caught her red-handed, she would just shrug, act completely shameless, and walk away.
To keep the peace in the dorm, we usually let it slide, even though it pissed us off.
But her personal hygiene was on a whole different level of disgusting.
She never washed her clothes. She just piled them on her bed and rotated through them, picking whatever looked the least dirty.
She was even too lazy to use pads properly, sometimes leaving stained underwear hanging right by her bed post.
Her desk was constantly piled high with moldy UberEats boxes, making the whole room smell like a dumpster.
Every single time, we would end up cleaning it because we couldn't stand the stench. Yet, she had the nerve to brag to people outside that we were her personal maids.
Honestly, Serena didn't have a single drop of "rich girl" blood in her.
So, when she claimed she had a million dollars, we found it incredibly hard to believe.
"If someone really wired it by mistake, they must be panicking right now," Lily said, frowning.
Serena reacted like a cat that had its tail stepped on. She shrieked, "How could it be a mistake?! It’s in my account, which means it’s my money! Even if it was a mistake, it’s their own damn fault. What does it have to do with me?"
"Right, Chloe?" Serena turned to look at me. I hadn't said a word yet.
In my past life, I had just read a bunch of articles about wire-transfer scams, so I tried my best to warn her. I spent hours trying to talk some sense into her.
But she didn't believe me. Instead, she sneered and said I was just jealous of her luck.
Later, our Resident Advisor somehow found out about it. After a serious talk, the Advisor made her call the police and return the money.
Having "lost" her million dollars, Serena hated me to the bone. She was convinced I was the one who ratted her out.
And then... she pushed me off the sixth floor.
Even now, if I close my eyes, I can still feel the agonizing pain of my bones shattering on the concrete.
This time, I was going to let her have exactly what she wanted.
I clenched my fists behind my back, but forced a look of pure admiration onto my face.
"Oh my gosh, Serena, you are so lucky! I'm literally so jealous!"
