Chapter 3

That night, I barely sleep at all.

After that, Selena comes to see me a few times.

She says Rayne suddenly arranges a private room for her, but to avoid suspicion, she doesn’t plan to let me stay with her.

“Chloe, just hold on a little longer. Once the tests are over, I’ll take you back and pick a good mate for you.”

From her words, I am certain that Rayne is reborn too.

“I’m your Omega. Whatever you say, I’ll do.”

I lower my gaze. In this life, I don’t want to get involved in anything between her and Rayne ever again.

Selena adds, “In a few days, I’ll follow Rayne to infiltrate the Rogue army. If it works, I’ll pass the tests early, and the whole academy will know my name.”

“Three years… I’ve finally waited for this day.”

My heart tightens all of a sudden.

Right. This is the day.

To make sure Rayne’s mission succeeds, Lucian went alone to lure the Rogues away. In the end, outnumbered, he died in battle.

In my past life, when I heard the news, I was washing clothes for Rayne.

When he came back and saw me in tears, he was clearly displeased.

“I come back after passing the tests, and you were crying?”

I didn’t say a word. I just felt like this world was unfair.

I find Lucian and try to get him to come up with an excuse, to not follow Rayne in the attack on the Rogues.

He looks at me, lifts a hand to ruffle my hair, and a smile curves on his lips.

“Chloe, I’m going to become the King’s warrior. How can I run from a fight?”

My eyes sting as I say, word by word, “Then what if… you die?”

Lucian answers me with words that hit like thunder.

“I fight for the pack. I die with no regrets.”

Seeing that I can’t change his mind, I decide to go with him.

When I first enter the academy, I am too weak, so I am assigned to learn cooking.

In these three years, I have never fought an enemy.

But after Lucian dies in my past life, I replay his escape route countless times. I am sure I can save him.
