I stared at him for a second, then took the card without hesitation. "Deal."

I needed the money.

Olivia slid an invitation out of her purse. "Sienna, make sure to attend our wedding."

I stared at the fancy card for a long time before tossing it straight into the trash can.

During my sophomore year of college, before my parents went bankrupt, I was a spoiled heiress.

One rainy day, I crossed paths with Chase, who was drag racing.

He didn't hit the brakes in time and slammed into me.

Shattered glass sliced my eyes, stripping away my sight.

As an only child, proud and spoiled, I couldn't accept a life in the dark.

I locked myself in my room, crying every day. I lost all will to live.

But then Chase came back into my life.

He came to apologize. "I'm so sorry, Sienna. It was an accident. Let me be your eyes from now on."

He drove me to class every day, ignoring the pitying stares of others.

He even stood up for me when people tried to bully me.

On my twentieth birthday, he gave me a promise ring.

"Sienna, my greatest dream is to marry you."

"Let me protect you for the rest of your life."

Looking back, it was probably just guilt.

And now, he believed that ten years of care was enough to pay for my ruined eyes.

The Sterling family didn't actually need a maid.

I knew Chase just wanted to find new ways to humiliate me.

His mother, Victoria, sat on the couch with an air of superiority. "Sienna, I told you long ago that you and Chase don't belong together. He's the heir to the Sterling empire. Why would he marry a blind girl?"

"I have no idea why he brought a blind stray like you back here. Are you just a decoration?"

I quietly wiped the floor, saying nothing.

Victoria was a former mistress who had crawled her way into the family.

The son of the first wife was supposed to be the sole heir.

If my parents hadn't helped Chase back then, he would never have secured his position.

The funny thing was, Victoria actually believed Chase got there on pure talent.

If he were truly that capable, he wouldn't have needed my family's backing in the first place.

"Sienna, you missed a spot over there. Oh, right, I forgot. You can't see."

Victoria grabbed my hand, then pretended to lose her balance. Her sharp high heel stomped directly onto the back of my hand.

"Oops. Clean it again, Sienna. Make sure it's spotless."

Chase and Olivia’s engagement party was held in the Sterling grand ballroom.

Chase stood on the stage, holding a microphone, giving his speech.

"Tonight, I want to thank someone very special."

"Thank you for being by my side and supporting me through my darkest times."

My heart skipped a beat.

"I'm so glad I finally get to marry her. Olivia, will you marry me?"

It wasn't me.

Olivia sneered as she walked past me later. "So what if you wasted ten years with him? In the end, I'm the one wearing the white dress."

Victoria was gossiping with a group of wealthy socialites nearby. "Oh, that's just Chase's ex. You remember, the girl from the bankrupt Vance family."

"Wait, didn't the Vances..."

"Yes, exactly. A blind girl thinking she could marry into our family? Chase was just being too charitable."

"She still thinks she’s some high-society princess. Olivia is the only daughter-in-law I'll ever accept."

Victoria chuckled mockingly. "I heard her parents jumped to their deaths. I bet she cursed them. Who knows if she'll bring bad luck to her next man? Unlike our Olivia, who was born under a lucky star."
