Chapter 4

I walked into Mr. Sterling's office, my face a mask of distress.

"Mr. Sterling, I can't participate in the academic competition this weekend."

Hearing this, Mr. Sterling almost jumped out of his chair.

"What? Why? Our entire department is counting on you to win the national prize! Why are you dropping out?"

I bit my lip, hesitating and sniffing, before whispering reluctantly:

"Because... my roommate, Chloe Sinclair... she's pregnant. I have to take her to get an abortion and take care of her. The competition... I'll just have to try again next year..."

The news hit him like a thunderbolt. Mr. Sterling let out a horrified shriek.

"SHE'S WHAT?! PREGNANT?!"

In universities, academic advisors aren't afraid of students failing classes; they are terrified of scandals and liabilities.

"Oh my god! Tell Chloe to come to my office right now! I need to speak with her!"

Capitalizing on his panic, I quickly slipped out of the office.

But Chloe wouldn't be able to see him. Because at that very moment, she was being rushed to the hospital after being brutally beaten by her loving boyfriend.

I had to hand it to Tyler; his reaction time was impeccable.

The moment he saw the medical report, he rushed to our dorm building. When Chloe walked out, he met her with a violent backhand slap to the face.

"You dirty whore! I've only been sleeping with you for two months, and you're carrying a three-month-old parasite?!"

The slap sent Chloe spinning to the ground. Tyler had always been wrapped around her finger, so his sudden violence shocked and angered her. She scrambled up and slapped him back.

"Are you out of your mind?! What garbage are you talking about? Is your brain filled with literal shit?"

Tyler shoved his phone in her face, pointing at the medical report.

"You're still lying! The whole world knows what a slut you are, and I was the only idiot kept in the dark! I had to find out from a stranger that I've been wearing a giant green horns for three months!"

The more Tyler spoke, the angrier he got. He grabbed Chloe by her hair, slammed her onto the pavement, and began kicking her viciously in the stomach.

"You played so innocent when we started dating! You wouldn't even let me touch you, and all the while you were getting plowed by some other guy! I'll kill you, you lying bitch!"

Chloe screamed in agony on the ground. Hearing the commotion, Vanessa and Brianna rushed downstairs, pulled Tyler off her, and dialed 911.

Chloe was knocked unconscious and rushed to the ER. Tyler was handcuffed and thrown into a police cruiser.

I only found out about the details when I returned to the dorm. According to eyewitnesses, Tyler had kicked Chloe in the stomach multiple times. There was a pool of blood on the concrete. The baby was almost certainly gone.
