Chapter 1

When I had my gastrectomy, my wife Zhang Ling, who had promised to stay with me the whole time, was nowhere to be seen.

The attending doctor looked behind me in surprise, “Did Dr. Zhang not come to stay with you?”

I called Zhang Ling, but all I heard was her ex-boyfriend’s voice: “Ling, bring me my underwear.”

Zhang Ling said to me in a hurry, “Xu Cheng hurt his foot, and as his doctor, I can’t just leave him alone.

“Yours is only a minor surgery, there’s no danger. Just get anyone to sign the form.”

Zhang Ling was a doctor and also my wife, but she gave the care that should have been mine to her ex-boyfriend.

As long as Xu Cheng was around, her eyes always followed him.

Until I was discharged, Zhang Ling never showed up.

I finally decided to give up on her and signed the divorce papers.

I lay in the hospital bed, looking at my worried cousin as he tried to comfort me. “I’m fine now. Go do your own thing.”

My cousin, still in his school uniform, kept glancing toward the door and forced a relaxed smile. “What about my cousin-in-law? She hasn’t come out after her surgery yet?”

Just then, a video call came in, with the ringtone I had specially set for Zhang Ling: [Wife calling, come answer the summons.]

My cousin raised his eyebrows at me and made a face. “Another helping of PDA. I won’t bother you two then. I still have evening self-study.”

I smiled, my face full of mockery.

On the other end of the video was Zhang Ling, with her delicate makeup, black wavy hair, and a cheongsam that made her look especially sexy and curvy.

I couldn’t help staring at her.

We had been married for two years, and she had always worn T-shirts and pants. I wanted to buy her clothes, but she would say, “I’m so tired from work I could die. I don’t have the energy to dress up.”

So she just didn’t want to waste any effort on me.

Seeing me dazed, Zhang Ling casually brushed the hair in front of her chest, looking stunningly seductive.

She lifted her chin smugly. “Silly, staring like that? Was the surgery a success? I told you it was a minor procedure. There was no need to worry.”

She was extremely confident in her skills, and didn’t even ask me a single thing about how I was doing.

“Xu Cheng is different from you. He’s a workaholic with all kinds of problems. Now that his leg is hurt and he can’t move around easily, if I don’t keep an eye on him, he’ll just keep working. How is his wound supposed to heal then?”

Watching her completely lost in worrying about Xu Cheng, I cut her off bitterly. “So you just left your husband behind to keep another man company?”

Zhang Ling froze, then instinctively argued, “What are you jealous about? We’re just good friends. He’s a patient, and as a doctor and a friend, of course I have to take care of him!”

I let out a cold laugh. “A good friend who shows up all dressed up at another man’s place to help him get his underwear?”

Zhang Ling, exposed by me, abruptly stood up. “Zhao Yan, can you be more generous? I already said he hurt his leg and can’t move around, that’s why I came to help. Besides, if there was anything between us, would there even be a place for you in this?”

Looking at how flustered she was trying to explain, I couldn’t help mocking her. “Was he crippled, or turned into a human husk, that he needs you, a doctor, to take care of him personally?”

Xu Cheng’s voice suddenly came through the video. “Zhao Yan, don’t misunderstand. Ling and I are clean—”

Suddenly Zhang Ling cried out, and the phone fell to the floor.

Through the screen, I saw Zhang Ling spread her arms and catch Xu Cheng as he fell.

The two of them instantly ended up tightly wrapped in each other’s arms, and Xu Cheng, whether on purpose or not, kissed Zhang Ling hard.

The wet kissing sound made me dizzy with disgust.

Xu Cheng looked at the phone on the floor and gave me a victorious smile. He even deliberately reached out and shifted their position so I could see the two of them clearly.

Zhang Ling’s face was red all over at that point.

She clutched Xu Cheng nervously, and they looked into each other’s eyes, full of affection, completely forgetting I was there.

Her voice was soft. “Are you okay? I told you to be careful. What if the wound opens again?”

I clenched my back teeth so hard my jaw hurt, just to keep myself from losing control and storming over to Xu Cheng’s place to beat the hell out of those two cheating bastards.
