My Patient's Unborn Baby Called for Help

I’m a first-year OB-GYN resident, and I have a secret: I can hear unborn babies talk.

Today, a pregnant woman came in. Her amniotic fluid index was running dangerously low.

Suddenly, a tiny voice echoed in my head.

"Doctor, my dad has drugged my mom three times already. Save me!"

The ultrasound probe in my hand trembled.

I looked up. The man standing next to the pregnant woman was staring at his phone, laughing at some screen.

I took a deep breath, carefully choosing my words.

"There's a slight issue with this report. I highly recommend a follow-up scan."
