System Update Deleting My Fiancé

There was an emergency at the office, so I had to ask my fiancé, Wyatt, to pick up my parents from the train station. It was their first time visiting the city.

Half an hour later, he sent a single-character reply: "K."

A faint sense of unease settled in my chest, but I brushed it aside.

It wasn’t until I got home after work to find the apartment completely dark and empty that the dread turned into a cold certainty. I rushed back out, heading straight for the station.

It was ninety-five degrees outside.
