Abstract

The night before our wedding, Claire got completely drunk at a bar.

Her childhood friend Ethan personally walked her home, and the two of them clung to each other when they parted. Claire was practically draped over him as she confessed, “You know, you’re the person I’ve always wanted to marry.”

Ethan explained to me, “Claire drank too much. We’re basically family.”

Then I turned around and saw that he had posted a photo of a ring on his Instagram, with the caption: “A promise I can’t give.”

Claire was the first person to like it.

This wasn’t the first time they had crossed the line.
